The political violence and insurgency in India’s Manipur state have devastated families and left many children orphaned. A musical concert was organized to raise awareness and funds for orphanages in the state.
[Laishram, Orphan]:
"Because of bad times many children have lost their parents. So such opportunities give us exposure, raises our confidence. Lots of people have come forward to help us after the event, which has raised our morale like never before."
The concert, entitled “What’s Our Mistake?” was organized by a young musician named K. Bobin Singh with the help of other orphans. The question has been lurking in the hearts of the people victimized by violence in Manipur.
Singh chose fifty children out of three hundred who were then trained for three months prior to the actual event.
[K. Bobin Singh, Musician and Concert Organizer]:
"The concert is the fulfillment of the wish to give the downtrodden, from various sections of the society, a platform to showcase their talents and raise their morale."
Thousands of people watched the performance.
There are more than two dozen armed groups in India's northeast which are either fighting for an independent homeland or more political autonomy.
